You want to know more about the transposing disc?
You are right here! And there are even two different ones:

(NOT available)!
Sorry! The left one with the terminology
" C, D, E, ..." I stopped to sell! The reason:
It's a German disc as you see on the photo.
Unfortionally in German the Notes B and Bb
are different. So I covered it with printed foil
which has NOT the right quality. That's why
I wanted to recommend an English transposer
of another seller, for producing a new English
disc would be to expensive. But at first I have
to look, if it's still available in English!
I hope, you will find the transposer here soon!
(Available)!
the right one with the terminology "Do, Re, Mi, ..."
is made of waterproof polystyrene which is directly
printed and UV-coated
. The language of the front is
Spain, but that is no problem, for the most important
terms are the same ones in English. If you also are
interested in the terms for the intervals, you shall
find the translation in the extensive instruction.
Everyone of these transposing discs has an
English brief instruction on the rear!

The transposing disc can be used:

  • when the range of tones that can be played on an instrument is exceeded:
  • if singing is to be accompanied by instruments and the range of the singers' voices can't be kept to (this happens very often!).
  • For transposing instruments (e.g. the trumpet or clarinet). Often these have to be played with transposed music. If less experienced players have got to play according to the original music that has not been transposed, they will most likely be overcharged. With the help of this transposing disc, the players can transpose the respective music by themselves.
  • Even the recorder can be handled like a transposing instrument so that it becomes possible, for example, to transpose music written for the alto recorder so that it can even be played by people who are only familiar with the recorder pitched in C.
  • To avoid difficult fingering: There are various instruments on which it is extremely difficult to play certain keys. These keys can be transposed into keys that are easier to play. If the instrument has a transposing device (e.g. electronic organs or guitars equipped with a capo), transposing can be the other way round. This means that the original key will be heard, but it has been achieved by easier fingering in a more convenient key.
  • If chord symbols are to be transposed (which is often needed when accompanying singing), another key can be selected with the help of the transposing disc even when the players are not familiar with notes.
You may know:
There are not many different transposing discs,
but only two transposing discs which can be used
for many different instruments.
You also find an extensive instruction in English!
